Multifunctional Materials and Technologies MultiMaT, Bremen
The development of advanced material systems serves to improve the shape and mechanical characteristics of structures, and is increasingly bringing ‘smart materials’ to the fore. The integration of functions in materials and components calls for new manufacturing and assembly processes.
The innovation cluster Multifunctional Materials and Technologies focuses on the concept of holistic manufacturing systems that harmonize functional materials, joining and assembly technologies, and state-of-the-art surface protection concepts. Particular attention is given to the areas of sensor-equipped components, surface engineering, and joining and assembly technologies.
The cluster’s strategic objective is to set up an internationally recognized center of excellence for science and technology in the field of multifunctional materials based on the latest research findings. In addition to an in-depth understanding of boundary layers in material combinations, this necessitates the development of manufacturing technologies that take into account the specific conditions and requirements of different industries.
Thematic areas
