Virtual Development, Engineering and Training VIDET, Magdeburg

Virtual reality speeds up and simplifies the process of developing newproducts. The innovation cluster Virtual Development, Engineering and Training intends to make this technology more widely available tocompanies in the mechanical engineering and plant construction sectorin Saxony-Anhalt.

More and more new products first take shape on a computer. They are designed, constructed, tested and optimized in digital form. Computer models enable engineers to test a new machine without having to build expensive prototypes. Interactive 3-D models can be used to experiment with different production sequences, detect possible errors and weak points, and even train machine operators. All this is made possible by new methods and technologies such as virtual engineering and virtual reality.

The innovation cluster Virtual Development, Engineering and Training hopes to leverage the existing business potential of the region’s mechanical engineering and plant construction sector as a means of promoting the industry’s growth, generating ideas for new products and securing jobs. The project is being coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF.
