New Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy
- Press Release
- 06.02.2009
The time for wind energy has come. According to a European Council decision in December 2008 20 percent of the energy consumed in the EU is to be covered by renewable energy by the year 2020. Wind energy has the greatest potential for rapid renewable energy expansion. The new Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES provides research and development for wind energy industry – from material development to integration into the power grid.
Intelligent Home Environment
- Press Release
- 05.02.2009
Many aging people would like to live independently as long as possible within their own homes. Automated and intelligent surroundings can assist in making this wish a reality. At Fraunhofer researchers will demonstrate CeBIT in Hall 9, B36 how this works.
Electricity from straw
- Research News
- February 2009
Researchers have developed the first-ever biogas plant to run purely on waste instead of edible raw materials – transforming waste into valuable material. The plant generates 30 percent more biogas than its predecessors. A fuel cell efficiently converts the gas into electricity.
