Driving Key Technologies

Mobile services should be accessible at any time, on any device, wherever you are. With new devices at every corner and several billion apps on the rise, there is a vast selection of services already available. But in terms of speed, quality, positioning and security, a lot still needs to be done. This is where the institutes of the Fraunhofer Society come into play. As Europe’s largest institution for applied research, they represent a strong partner in finding solutions for the future generation of mobile services. Research focuses are on transmitting technologies and standards, hard- and software components, integration and adaption for different mobile devices, development of services as well as security technologies for networks and devices.

At GSMA mobile world congress 2010, Fraunhofer demonstrates video and audio coding standards such as SVC, HECA or HE-AAC. In addition, visitors can experience high quality communication over LTE, navigation and traffic services on the basis oft he TPEG transmission standard as well as the conditional access technology HECA, tailored for TPEG. Middle- and software-components for integration of services, seamless navigation, Wi-Fipositioning and search deliver a taste of the future of integrated location-based and context-aware technologies. Last but notleast, advanced security solutions demonstrate that mobility and security are no longer at odds.
