High-Performance Center

Security and Privacy in the Digital World, Darmstadt

The High-Performance Center Security and Privacy in the Digital World in Darmstadt combines the skills of the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology SIT and the Institute for Graphic Data Processing IGD in the field of cybersecurity. Darmstadt is the only Fraunhofer High-Performance Center that covers all aspects of IT security and data protection.

The High-Performance Center carries out application-oriented research and joins forces with international science and renowned companies from business and politics. At the core of the activities is the development of new solutions for improved cybersecurity. This includes security components as well as methods, tools and processes for the design and implementation of secure IT-based solutions.

Key topics

  • Infrastructure security
  • Software security
  • System security

In these areas, the participating scientists research and develop components, methods, tools and processes that improve the IT security and data protection of real IT-based systems.

An example for the networking of science, business and politics is the Hessian-Israeli Partnership Accelerator (HIPA), which was launched in 2017. Within the scope of this Accelerator, highly qualified students and young entrepreneurs from Israel and Germany will be able to develop solutions to practical cyber security issues of companies under the supervision of Fraunhofer employees. The Accelerator is intended to consolidate cooperation between Germany and Israel, accelerate innovative development approaches and promote entrepreneurial thinking.

The High Performance Center is supported by the State of Hesse within the scope of CRISP and by funds from the Fraunhofer Society. The center is managed in partnership by Prof. Michael Waidner, the head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology SIT, and Prof. Dieter W. Fellner, the director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD.
