Innovation Cluster Mechatronic Machine Systems, Chemnitz

The aim of the cluster is to develop manufacturing tools based on mechatronics that will help companies to design processes and manufacture products to exceedingly high standards. A typical example of this R&D approach is the project in which researchers and businesses in Saxony are jointly developing high-precision assembly plant and hybrid spark erosion technology for novel piezoelectric injection molding systems.

The business and applied research communities in Saxony intend to establish centers of excellence for mechatronic machine systems in
conjunction with the region’s universities. It is hoped that by encouraging strong partnerships between research and industry it will be possible to raise the efficiency of their development work.

Mechatronics represents the intersection of three disciplines: mechanical engineering, electrical / electronic engineering, and computer science. Interdisciplinary research in this combined field, coupled with scientific excellence, holds great promise of top-class product and process  innovations. The purpose of the innovation cluster is to concentrate the available technical and organizational resources and make them available to all parties involved.
