In future, you'll be able to deal with local authorities conveniently from home – collecting a number and standing in line will become a thing of the past. The new personal ID card is a step in this direction. Secure electronic identity and signature functions are the prerequisite in this respect. Fraunhofer researchers are working on making eGovernment secure and reliable.

Kompetenzzentrum Öffentliche IT

The Competence Center for Public IT provides government and private sector IT decision makers with information and advice as well as technical, safety and organizational assistance relating to the online identification and verification function of the new personal identity cards. The Center also collects and prepares data concerning experiences and requirements of using the system for potential users.

Open government data platform for germany

Free access to and proactive provision of public administration data and information significantly increases transparency, facilitates participation and improves the quality and efficiency of governmental administrative processes. Data is also a valuable resource that can be refined by being processed by business and industry and made available to all. The German Federal Ministry of the Interior commissioned a study on open government data that was then followed by a prototype open government data platform for Germany.
