Research and development (R&D) for innovation are crucial to master global and local challenges. As an overarching unit within Fraunhofer's Presidential Division, we convey the interests and positions of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft at our two locations in Munich and Berlin.

At Fraunhofer's headquarters in Munich, we develop strategical initiatives for the advancement of our applied research portfolio. The Science Policy Department aims to ensure the highest possible quality for R&D in Germany by promoting and preserving scientific freedoms as well as mission-specific orientation, which are necessary conditions for Germany's and Europe's innovative power.

Strategic Focus

As Europe's largest research organization, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft interacts with various interest groups in politics, science, industry and society. The Science Policy Department serves as a central point of contact for political actors and conveys the political positions of Fraunhofer as a whole. At the same time, we serve as an internal communicator, monitoring all relevant political decisions and developments in relation to our research interests. Our target is to bring together information, strategic interests and decision-makers in order to increase the understanding for research topics and facilitate access to Fraunhofer. The Department's essential task is the strategic management of all relevant political stakeholder relationships by strengthening and expanding trustful dialogue.

We want to shape the process of change: that is why our Department places special value on communicating Fraunhofer's most relevant research topics and concepts. For this purpose, we have developed attractive formats and instruments that have been established both internally and externally.
