Fraunhofer at the IFA 2010 in Berlin

From 3 to 8 September the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft will be at the IFA 2010 in Berlin. There you will find about 20 exhibits from different Fraunhofer institutes and research establishments. Including exhibits like the ELEPHANT-Composer, a software for creating your own smartphone apps easily, 3-D-displays with electronic head tracking so you can watch 3D without spectacles, the new generation of flat speakers or the learning software Songs2See – the fun and easy way to learn a musical instrument.

Current issues

  • Bioenergy – electricity, gas and fuel from renewable resources

    Take a look at the figures and it is clear that bioenergy is a fundamental part of future energy supply. However, until electricity, heat and fuels can be produced universally from biomass, the entire process chain, from biomass production to feeding the energy into the supply grids, needs to be further optimized. In light of this realization, Fraunhofer researchers are working on several issues.

    For a long time, green electricity was considered too expensive. But with the rising costs of crude oil, natural gas etc., power obtained from renewable energy sources has gradually begun to look more attractive. Wind energy is currently one of the cheapest regenerative energy sources, with the construction of land-based wind farms costing roughly one euro per watt.
