The redox-flow large-scale battery storage unit has been set up as a pilot plant on the Fraunhofer ICT premises in Pfinztal.

Battery cell production

Asia is currently the market leader in the development and production of batteries. But Europe wants to and must catch up. In the Fraunhofer Battery Alliance, in which 19 institutes are involved, Fraunhofer has already built up comprehensive expertise. Within the framework of the Key Strategic Initiative, the various processes for the production of batteries are to be intensively researched.

 

Battery research

Fraunhofer develops next generation batteries. The entire range of energy storage systems, from micro applications such as button cells to large stationary systems such as redox flow batteries is covered.

 

Fraunhofer Battery Alliance

The Fraunhofer Battery Alliance deals with both primary and secondary, i.e. rechargeable, systems, from micro-applications such as button cells to large stationary systems such as redox flow batteries.

 

Energy in the fuel tank

Electricity generation from renewable energies fluctuates greatly and therefore needs buffer storage.
