Fraunhofer Center for Smart Agriculture and Water Management – AWAM
Fraunhofer Portugal in Porto coordinates cooperation between research institutes and customers in Portugal with the Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany. Fraunhofer Portugal manages two research centres: the Fraunhofer Research Center for Assistive Information and Communication Solutions (AICOS) in conjunction with the University of Porto and the Fraunhofer Center for Smart Agriculture and Water Management – AWAM, resulting from a partnership with the University of Évora (UÉ) and the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD)..
The research scientists Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS develop concepts and solutions designed to facilitate access to information technology by wide sectors of the population. Among their many projects, they are working for example on a new intuitive user interface for cellphones based on open-source software and simplified interfaces between the Internet and the mobile network.
With the aim of becoming a European reference in the areas of water management and agriculture-related processing technology, the main goal of Fraunhofer Portugal AWAM is the development and application of new process technologies to close regional loops of nutrients, water, and energy.
