The National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE is a research center of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with the participation of the Fraunhofer Institutes SIT and IGD as well as the TU Darmstadt, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

ATHENE is the largest research center for cyber security and privacy in Europe. ATHENE develops security solutions to the benefit of industry, society and government, regularly advises the public and private sector and supports start-ups.

The research center is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art (HMWK) and is located in the science city of Darmstadt.
