Fraunhofer Hydrogen Network

The Fraunhofer Hydrogen Network acts as a dynamic exchange and cooperation platform under the leadership of Prof. Christopher Hebling and Prof. Mario Ragwitz, with an agile board of directors as the operational decision-making body. The network, consisting of 39 Fraunhofer Institutes, brings together expertise along the entire hydrogen value chain. From hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and infrastructure to applications in industry, mobility, energy, and heating. The goal is to develop marketable hydrogen technologies and actively contribute to the energy transition. Around 750 full-time equivalents at Fraunhofer are dedicated to these innovative solutions.

Hydrogen research at Fraunhofer is characterized by a fundamental understanding of systems analysis, ranging from material development and cell and stack manufacturing to system integration and life cycle analysis (LCA), with a cross-sector approach. With its extensive understanding of the roadmap for future value and supply chains in the energy industry, Fraunhofer creates the conditions for identifying upstream technological and market barriers to the successful market introduction of hydrogen technologies at an early stage and addressing them with customer-specific solutions.

Fraunhofer's overarching goal is to develop and offer technological solutions that meet the specific requirements of industry.

Fraunhofer offers a range of expertise that covers all relevant aspects of the hydrogen value chain:
