Fraunhofer in Spain

The first Fraunhofer Spain initiative is the "Fraunhofer Center for Applied Theragnostics CAT" in Barcelona, representing the first program in applied bioengineering for health promoted by Fraunhofer Spain. This initiative is dedicated to the development of innovative diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic tools within the field of precision medicine, aiming to generate significant academic, industrial, and healthcare impact.

"We view ourselves as a bridge between scientific knowledge and its practical application, accelerating the transfer of new technologies. By bringing together research laboratories, clinicians, and the biotech industry, Fraunhofer CAT aims to ensure that patients benefit directly from advances in precision medicine", explains Prof. Josep Samitier, Director of the new Fraunhofer Center.

Fraunhofer Spain was founded by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Its activities are operated with the economic support of  Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades)  and Barcelona City Council (Ajuntament de Barcelona) and the first Fraunhofer CAT program with the economic support of Catalan Government  (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the academic collaboration of Barcelona University, Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT.
